Why internships and placements are a popular route to employment

Previously, students looking for part-time work or summer jobs were advised to take any type of role because, at that time, all work experience was considered valuable, and it was viewed as an indication that the student had drive, enthusiasm and a willingness to get on and work.


But those days are over. Career and graduate recruitment experts are now recommending that students build up a portfolio of relevant work experience as early as possible – before they arrive at university, if they get the opportunity...

Graduate employment survey

Citizens Advice Scotland has launched a major national survey of recent graduates who are struggling to find work. The online survey is open till 7 May, and is aimed at anyone in Scotland who has graduated in the last six years. It will seek their views on their current situation and their hopes for the future. It will also ask how well they think their University prepared them for the job market, and how well they feel they are treated now by the jobcentre, by the government and by employers...

The turnaround year for graduate jobs

Is the graduate jobs market finally beginning to recover from the recession?
The answer appears to be a qualified yes. A report published this month says that ‘2010 has seen a small but encouraging turnaround,’ and suggests that graduate employment is beginning to recover from the impact of the economic downturn, although it is still not back to pre-recession levels.

Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games boost for graduates

A £10m scheme which aims to provide 1,000 jobs for graduates as a legacy of the 2014 Commonwealth Games is being unveiled by Glasgow City Council. The Commonwealth Graduate Fund will pay employers 50% of the salary costs for graduates they take on, up to a maximum of £10,000 per graduate for one year. Click Here
